If you have never attended a drive-in movie showing then you are encouraged to do so to celebrate Drive-In Movie Day on 6th June.
Everyone has been to the cinema at least once in their lives, whether as a young child with their parents, on a date with a significant other or with a group of friends. If you ask how many have been to a drive-in movie, however, the answer is significantly less, and it’s not because of a lack of car hire services available.
Drive-in movies are more commonplace in the United States than Britain, and that is of course where this day originates from.
In 1933, Richard Hollingshead decided to create a solution so his mother, who could not sit comfortably in theatre seating, could watch her favourite films. From this, Park-In Theatres was created and so too was the drive-in experience. The popularity of drive-in movies exploded over the proceeding decades until a decline in more recent years, where now drive-in showings are much rarer than they were once upon a time.
In Britain, drive-in movies tend to be more of an opportunity to see classics such as Grease and other timeless blockbusters on the big screen in a unique way.
If you have invested in car hire for a family break, finding a local drive-in theatre is a great excuse to get everyone together and not only enjoy the film, but also the comforts of your vehicle. As Richard Hollingshead’s mother found out, car seats can be far more comfortable than those in the cinema, and you don’t have to worry about standing up for those heading out for washroom breaks!
Of course, you don’t need to be on a family holiday to celebrate Drive-In Movie Day, as this could be a great excuse to ask out that special someone in your life.
If you are planning on attending a drive-in movie in a hire car, then you will need to really consider how comfortable the interior has to be. After all, you will be sitting still for a couple of hours during the film.
With this, also consider how many will be making the trip, because the last thing you want is to feel cramped and unable to move throughout the duration of a film. Hire a car with plenty of leg room if you do plan on heading to a drive-in movie, this way you can guarantee a pleasant experience for all involved.
